Underfoot Part 1: Metal Plates
I am very fascinated by the gems that we walk over without paying attention. I was struck by the strong architectural form of the metal plates found on the floor of the Metro Convention Centre, Toronto. These encaustic monotypes were produced by first doing multiple “rubbings” of the large metal floor plate, and then printing encaustic pigment from a “Hotbox” onto paper.

Underfoot Part 2: Manholes
During a trip to Israel I was drawn to interesting objects I encountered underfoot. I was struck by the variety of designs of manholes. I began to photograph and do rubbings of them and it turned into a series. I used the rubbings to create encaustic monotype prints using a ‘Hotbox’ printed onto paper.
