Explorations

All printmaking involves creating an image on a plate and transferring it onto paper or another surface. I have been using a variety of modalities over the past decade and a half, and I am always amazed by how many different ways there are to print. After a few years of just using encaustic mono typing, this year I began an exploration of other modalities some new for me and some familiar. I decided to title my exhibition “Explorations” because that’s how it felt. I had no agenda and waited to see what could happen. I kept away from figurative forms and allowed myself to play with shape, line and colour and to meander through different techniques to see what they would yield. Out of this emerged four groups of work which I have brought together in this exhibition. Each one evoked a very different reaction in me, but I feel that the overriding experience was a search for balance and harmony, though sometimes the opposite happened, and there would be tension and discord. The techniques used were intaglio with colour fields and chine collé, carborundum, collographs with corrugated cardboard and suminagashi.
